How to register a sole proprietorship?
There Are Two Main Registration Methods in Malaysia
- Register using your personal name
- Register using a trade name
Registering Under a Personal Name
- The business uses the full name stated on the owner's identity card (IC), and no name approval is required
- The registration fee is RM30 per year
- As the business is registered under an individual's name, it cannot simply be converted into a partnership later on
Registering Under a Trade Name
- A custom business name may be used, subject to approval by SSM
- The registration fee is RM60 per year
- The business may later operate as a partnership by adding business partners
How Can You Register?
- Registration can be completed through SSM's online registration system
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old and be Malaysian citizens or permanent residents
